Hi everyone
One of my partners in dance and i have been trying to put our thinking caps on....we teach and perform Tribal Bellydance in Brisbane and we're dying to expand our market and get out there and dance more often! if you know of anyone who's perhaps looking for some alternative entertainment for their restaurant/art venue/event we'd love to come along. In the last 12 mths we've supported community events and sadly too few corporate events...we've loved sharing our dance particularly for causes for the environment, women, gay & lesbian rights....we fit in at tattoo sows, goth events, in fact where we dont fit in is the typical mid eastern restaurant scene.
Tribal Bellydance ISNT the sequinned dance of the seven veils....we're dramatic, strong, powerful, we use modern sounds (not just the middle eastern sounds that personally I find are way too shocking for the western ear) I could rave on about the history of this dance but I can also suggest just checking us out on youtube or our site. We tend to dance with swords, so we need a bit of space and protection that drunken hooligans wont take off with our play things. We dont mind coming out late at night even. We're not strippers or bollywood dancers,...we're just dancers seeking new homes to play.
So do you guys have any suggestions? know anyone who knows someone that perhaps we could talk to? This dance has been my dream for the past 2 years come to reality so I'd love to get it out there more...
Thanks for your time everyone!
Dee

Re: Seeking alternative venues for performance - Tribal Bellydancers
Tue, November 20, 2007 - 2:43 AMI have had the networking cooking pot out my love and might have us some work in the new year at some alternate venues. I'm really trying to push the trio as well as my solo work. Will keep you posted there but might mean we will need to get together at times to rehearse.
Might I suggest you dont do anything unpaid? For community things I do ask for donation towards fuel and insurance.
Dont undersell yourself and do things for free.
I really think you should reach out to womens groups, gay and lesbian festivals/events as well with workshops and performances. Trbal is a beautiful empowering and bonded dance form that I feel would be welcomed to women as a whole including domestic violence victims. Also youth organisations that deal with troubled teenagers might be an avenue given the healing benefits of tribal.
I 'd suggest have a good chat with Heidi ;) -

check out my site www.tribalblossoms.com - our classes are at Danceworks Woolloongabba if this helps....its a gorgeous style, really empowering and strong and dynamic - its not bellydance thats soft or focused on the solo, its this cool group vibe I dig big time (obviously)
anyway have a feeler come back....will see how we go!
