The event has been going for the last 29years and is basically an arts festival. There is no way to describe the event,it would be like trying to explain a colour to a blind person.
There are plenty of sites to check out photos and info about burningman,a lot of very good ones on tribe.
Due to the large expence of travelling from Australia to the States and all the extras incured while travelling,it seems to make sense to get everyone together and travel in a group to recieve flight discounts and accomodation discounts.
If you have an interest in going to the Man please dont hesitate to contact me,i will answer as many questions as i can.
In the spirit of BurningMan this is my little way of gifting to you a little(hopefully big)saving.

I am looking for people who are interested in helping to organise a Brisbane leg of ConFest. It is a bi-annual festival held in Moulamein in southern NSW every Christmas and Easter and attracts between 2,000 - 3,000 punters. There are separate ConFest groups for people in Sydney and one in Melbourne called Confab, and I would like to start one for Brisbane people.

These are the sort of people you will find at this event:

Fire twirlers and jugglers
Pagans/Wiccans
Massage Therapists both professional and amateur
Artists, painters, sculptors
Musicians
Futurists
Naturists and Nudists
Vegetarians and Vegans
University Students
Environmentalists
Bazaar market stall holders
African tribal drummers
Yoga and Meditation facilitators
Avante-garde Fashion Designers

I've been to this event three times and I love it! Everybody gets on really well with each other despite their cultural differences - if Eden exists in Australia then you can surely find it here. It is open to people of all ages and from all walks of life.
By 'alternative' I mean, for example, community theaters, community/social centers, raves, less commercial music venues, free bike workshops, locally owned vegetarian/vegan places to eat...... and anything set up by and for the community basically :)
maybe you know neighborhoods that support this kind of stuff?
um, maybe a little description of the opposite of what i'm looking for would be helpful too hehe

We will probably rent for a month or two but would like to get an idea of where we should be thinking of settling long term. We don’t have any kids and will be working in the City Centre near Parliament House. We like outdoor living (beach etc) but also theatre, movies, restaurants etc. Somewhere safe where one can walk freely at night.
We think we are looking for something either:
a)	Right on a beach and then commuting in – what would be the nicest and closest and with all the necessary shopping etc. And how long would it take? Any other pros and cons?
b)	Alternatively something cosmopolitan (NOT EDGY!) with all the advantages of being close to work and city life?
Any suggestions? Thanks.

One of my partners in dance and i have been trying to put our thinking caps on....we teach and perform Tribal Bellydance in Brisbane and we're dying to expand our market and get out there and dance more often! if you know of anyone who's perhaps looking for some alternative entertainment for their restaurant/art venue/event we'd love to come along. In the last 12 mths we've supported community events and sadly too few corporate events...we've loved sharing our dance particularly for causes for the environment, women, gay & lesbian rights....we fit in at tattoo sows, goth events, in fact where we dont fit in is the typical mid eastern restaurant scene.

Tribal Bellydance ISNT the sequinned dance of the seven veils....we're dramatic, strong, powerful, we use modern sounds (not just the middle eastern sounds that personally I find are way too shocking for the western ear) I could rave on about the history of this dance but I can also suggest just checking us out on youtube or our site. We tend to dance with swords, so we need a bit of space and protection that drunken hooligans wont take off with our play things. We dont mind coming out late at night even. We're not strippers or bollywood dancers,...we're just dancers seeking new homes to play.

So do you guys have any suggestions? know anyone who knows someone that perhaps we could talk to? This dance has been my dream for the past 2 years come to reality so I'd love to get it out there more...

(I know its not the size that counts lol but i'm sure there's still a lot of people out there who just dont know bout it!)

Hi all,

Me and my wife is thinking of going over to Brisbane to work and live there after spending nearly 4 years in Liverpool, UK. We probably thinking of going some in mid August this year and are looking for tips from websites about Brisbane to find out more about the city.

It would be really great if anyone can help us with the following questions we have ;-

Where is the best area for us to rent a property, preferably nothing too expensive but nice, safe and not too far from the city and preferably near to the sea and some nice parks or nature spots. Preferably a house or townhouse as we're quite tired of living in an apartment. Would be helpful if you could also include the rental that we might be paying in the areas recommended.

This might be inappropriate but it would really be helpful if someone could tell us something about the city, eg. how safe is it, which suburbs to avoid, etc.... Not to put down the country that we are now living in, but living here have taught us to be more wary as to the area that we intend to stay. We have many unpleasant experiences here, which are part of the reason we are thinking of moving to Australia. So any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Last but not least, whats the job prospect in the city? My wife wouldn't have any problem as she is an experienced nurse. Is there many jobs in the IT & Internet sectors as I am looking for jobs as a web developer.

Thanks for your time and hopefully someone would be able to help us in making our move to Brisbane a pleasant one.

We're sure this has been asked before, and we've been through some related answers, but here's our question. We're moving to Brisbane in 2 weeks, and have been overwhelmed by the amount of information available on the public domain wrt suburbs/living/etc.

We are an Indian couple with a 2-year old son. We want to live in a stand-alone house. We prefer a quite location with access to child-care/day-care centers, good hospitals/doctors, nice parks/recreation areas, and access to a highway that will get me to the CBD (say within 10kms).

While we'll definitely want to mix in with the local crowd and make friends from different cultures, we'd like to live in a suburb where there's a fair bit of Asian/Indian stuff around --- like shops, restaurants, etc.

Your pointers will be much appreciated.
